Zoning Hearing – October 1, 2014

The Straban Township, Adams County, PA, Zoning Hearing Board will hold a public hearing on October 1, 2014, at 7:00 p.m. in the Straban Township Municipal Building, 1745 Granite Station Road, Gettysburg, PA, to consider the following:
Application of County of Adams: regarding property located at 230 Greenamyer Lane in Straban Township. The property is located in the EC-2 zoning district established by the Straban Township zoning ordinance. Applicant proposes the construction of a new and second 140 foot emergency communications tower on said site to update emergency telecommunications systems and to provide necessary intercommunications with other towers and emergency services providers. The existing tower will be retained and used for amateur radio antennas currently located elsewhere on the property. The existing tower will be used solely for emergency communications during disasters and exclusively for public safety and public service communications.

Applicant requests a special exception to allow the installation of the second 140 foot communications tower. In addition, Applicant requests the following variances from standards applicable to the special exception application: (1) the requirement that the tower is the minimum height needed to function satisfactorily and to reduce communication dead spots within the system; (2) the requirement that an applicant make a good faith effort to mount antennas on existing building structures or communication towers including a requirement that adjoining property owners of property located within one-fourth mile radius of the proposed tower site be contacted in respect to the proposed project; and (3) that landscaping and screening requirements be waived. All those wishing to be heard on the application must appear at hearing at the aforesaid time and place.
